The Institute of Information Systems at the University of Bern is concerned with innovating and enhancing business processes in organizations by developing and managing computer-based information systems. The focus of our research and teaching endeavors is twofold: firstly, we study principles, methods, and tools for the development and use of information and communication systems, taking into account technical, economic, and socio-economic aspects. Secondly, we deal with the management of the information systems function within and across organizations, including its leadership, governance, organization, planning, and control.

Solving strategic and operational business problems by developing and managing computer-based information systems can be an exciting and rewarding career. Information technology jobs are among the fastest growing, most sought after and most highly paid positions in organizations. We seek to align our teaching and research endeavors so that our students are well prepared to meet the ever-increasing information systems challenges that they will face in their future jobs.
